Peace, Justice and strong Institutions
Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
Violence has many faces. It emanates from individuals or criminal groups, from terrorists and armies, but also governments and their state institutions. Where violence or oppression prevail, sustainable development cannot occur. In many countries, people cannot rely on state institutions as corruption is frequently present.
Governments, civil society and citizens must pursue the goal of peaceful and just societies locally, nationally and internationally. All forms of violence must be reduced and conflicts resolved by non-violent means. The to-do list is long: promoting the rule of law, freedom of expression, respect for human rights, fighting corruption and discrimination.
