Sustainable Cities and Communities
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
It is a challenge to make cities a good and safe place to live for all. Nowadays, people everywhere want to live in urban areas as it provides better job opportunities; however, especially in developing countries, they end up living in slum-like and often unsanitary conditions. Poor public transport, along with air pollution, waste disposal, access to clean water and electricity, represent problems in cities that we need to address in the future to develop sustainably. Furthermore, all over the world, cities are responsible for severe environmental pollution; therefore, investments in renewable energy and sustainable transport are needed, along with proper urban and regional development planning. The number of people living in cities will continue to increase; by 2030, everyone should have access to affordable housing, public spaces, good infrastructure and sustainable transportation and buildings.
